Frequently Asked Questions
Is this service available to all students?
Will I see the same Success Coach each time?
How many times should I meet with a Success Coach each semester?
University data has shown that students who meet with a Success Coach six or more times during a semester show significant improvement in their GPA and self-reported satisfaction with their goals.
Though the number of Success Coaching meetings can be determined by the student and/or the coach, it is strongly recommended students attend at least 4 coaching sessions within one semester.
What I can expect to happen during my coaching appointment?
During the initial appointment, the Success Coach will spend time getting to know the student by asking about their specific challenges and discussing goals they'd like to work on. The coach then guides the student to think of achievable steps they can implement in their daily life to achieve those goals.
The Success Coach will also provide general information and clarify any student questions about how a coaching partnership works.
Subsequent sessions are driven by the student and can cover a range of topics based on what the student wishes to gain out of the coaching experience.
Should I bring anything to my success coaching appointment?
How is Success Coaching different from Academic Advising?
Success Coaching works as a complement to academic advising, not as a replacement.
Success Coaches are typically peer students (undergraduate or graduate) that work in partnership with you to determine your individual goals and how to achieve them. These goals can be academic in nature but can also focus on well-being, enhancing your college experience, the development of a specific skillset, or general accountability.
How do I schedule a coaching appointment?
Undergraduate students may schedule a meeting with a Success Coach through RSN.
Graduate students may email AcademicSupport@rowan.edu to schedule a meeting with a Success Coach.
