Students Organized to Affirm Recovery (SOAR)
In partnership with the Wellness Center and the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Our mission is to support students in recovery and those exploring their relationship with alcohol and other drugs by providing one-on-one support, harm reduction education, substance-free spaces, and access to campus and community resources.
We want to support students on their academic journeys and in their overall well-being by creating an inclusive environment for honest conversations to occur. We aim to reduce stigma around substance use and recovery, empowering students to make informed decisions for themselves.

She approaches her work with students with an open mind, acknowledging each person’s unique perspective and experiences. She believes wholeheartedly in the ability of others to set and accomplish goals that are meaningful to them and she is excited to support Rowan University students on their path toward success!
Samantha Henhaffer, SOAR Navigator
Sam Henhaffer is an Academic Support Coordinator and SOAR Navigator at Rowan University. A proud Rowan alum (Class of 2017), Sam earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in English and Elementary Education, along with a minor in French. After graduating, Sam took a new direction and found a passion for work centered around personal growth and human connection. Sam began as a peer recovery support specialist, supporting individuals navigating substance use and related challenges, and later transitioned into case management and leadership within the same initiative. During that time, Sam earned the National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) credential through NAADAC, further deepening an appreciation for the power of empathy, community, and meeting people where they’re at. These experiences shaped Sam’s approach to student support. Sam went on to complete a Master’s in Human Services at Wilmington University before returning to Rowan to help students find their footing and thrive. Recognizing that college life can bring both excitement and challenges - academically, mentally, and personally - Sam is dedicated to helping students define what success, balance, and fulfillment look like in their own lives.
