Flexibility (Flex) Rule for Praxis II: Elementary Education:
Students who achieve and maintain a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA by the 4/30 deadline are eligible to utilize the Praxis Flexibility Rule to move forward into Clinical Practice and senior year. Where the cumulative GPA is 3.50 or higher, and the passing score is no less than the scores in the “Passing Score − 5% column” on the website below, the test requirement will be met.
Please review required flex rule minimum scores here: https://www.nj.gov/education/certification/testing/flex/
Students who utilize flex rule are encouraged to continue testing after 4/30 to pass all sections of Praxis II outright. The 3.5 cumulative GPA must be maintained through graduation in order to obtain certification if subtests are not passed outright.
For any students who plan to use the flex rule to begin senior year, a form will be completed near the 4/30 deadline. See advisor for more information as the deadline approaches.

Clinical Practice and Placement Information
- Students must meet all Transition Point II requirements no later than April 30th for Fall placements.
- You will not receive your placement until you accomplish the TPII requirements.
- In most cases, you remain in the same placement throughout the entire academic year.
- Since our program covers the 7 southern counties of New Jersey, which include Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem, you can complete your year-long clinical practice in a variety of schools, classrooms and locations. Your program team has ensured that you will be able to complete all of your clinical requirements regardless of your classroom or location. Remember flexibility is essential in education!
- Contact oce@rowan.edu and copy advisor with any questions related specifically to your placement.
Tips for Being Successful in Your Placement
- Communicate often and early with your supervisor and advisor.
- If you are unsure about your placement, have questions or concerns, it is critical that you reach out to your supervisor and advisor for assistance. We cannot help if we don’t know that you’re facing some challenges in your placement.
- Attend Clinical Practice orientation in August and December - many of your questions about your time in Clinical Practice will be answered during the CP Orientation!
- Demonstrate professionalism.
- Dress appropriately for your job. Understand that these could be future colleagues so you always want to put your best self forward.
- Speak politely and respectfully with your Cooperating Teachers, supervisors, and other figures involved in your placement and education journey.
- Use professional language in your communication. There’s a difference between telling your CT that you’re “doing homework” versus “collecting data” while in the classroom. Students “do homework,” teachers “collect data.”
- Be flexible and embrace this learning opportunity.
- Every student teacher will have their own unique experience in their classroom. Remember “comparison is the thief of joy” so try to embrace your placement and learn from the experience and environment.
Certification Information
- Students enrolled in Teacher Certification Preparation programs are eligible to apply for certification through Rowan University. Upon successful completion of all certification requirements, the College of Education will submit the certification applications to the New Jersey Department of Education on behalf of the student. The application instructions and link will be shared with students prior to the start of the application period each semester via Rowan email.
- The application period for BA in Inclusive Education students begins March 15th of senior year.
- Graduation and certification are separate processes. You must apply for certification through the Google Form AND apply for graduation through Self-Service Banner.
- As of May 15, 2015, paper certificates are no longer issued. All certification information will be found in the NJEdCert system.
