Pop Quiz Accommodations for Students with Testing Accommodations

Students registered with the Office of Accessibility Services and approved for testing accommodations are entitled to use them on all assessments, including pop quizzes. Testing Services will override the standard 5-business day scheduling policy for pop quizzes when:

  • The assessment is a pop quiz
  • The student did not receive more than 5 business days' notice
  • The student emails their professor and CC's Accommodated Testing at accommodatedtesting@rowan.edu to confirm that the professor provided fewer than 5 business days' notice, preventing the student from scheduling the quiz in the AIM system.

Instructor & Student Options for Pop Quizzes:

Instructors should discuss with students whether pop quizzes are part of the course. If so, the following solutions may be considered:

  1. Modified Grading Approach – The instructor and student agree that the quiz will be graded based on a percentage of the total questions (e.g., complete 7 of 10 questions).
  2. Alternative Grading Adjustment – The student takes the quiz with the class, but it does not count toward their final grade. Instead, another category (e.g., homework) is adjusted to compensate.
  3. Testing Center Administration – The student completes the pop quiz in the Testing Center with accommodations, typically the same or next business day, as their schedule allows.
    • The instructor must email the quiz to accommodatedtesting@rowan.edu at least 24 hours before the class section takes the quiz.
    • Students will be seated as long as the accommodated time does not exceed Testing Center hours.
