Returning For The Spring Term?

**If you are planning on returning to the same housing assignment for the spring term there is NO NEED TO REMOVE ALL YOUR BELONGINGS prior to going home for Winter Break.**

Please follow the below guidelines:

  • Empty your refrigerator of all perishable items- Leave it plugged in.
  • Empty all trashcans / waste bins into common trash collection area.
  • Close all windows, turn off lights, and lock all doors.
  • Take all valuables, as well as any items you will need for an extended period at home.
  • Leave the heat ON! If you have a thermostat that can be controlled, set it no lower than 65 degrees. This is to prevent any frozen pipes while the space is not occupied.
  • You will NOT return your room key at Fall Closing if you are returning to the same space in the Spring term. Be careful to keep track of your room key over the break. Lost keys will require a lock change at the expense of the student.

***IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT WINTER HOUSING***

  • The last meal plan service for the fall term is lunch Thursday, December 21 with Glassworks Eatery at Holly Pointe Commons closing at 3 p.m. Dining Dollars will carry forward from the fall to the spring term, and Rowan Bucks remain active from year to year until graduation. The Owl’s Nest in the Chamberlain Student Center will be open for lunch most weekdays 11am - 2pm during the break period (except December 22 – January 5 when the Chamberlain Student Center will be closed due to construction). The spring meal plan begins Saturday, January 13.
  • Over the Winter Break, certain building services, such as maintenance to common area restrooms and lounge spaces will be reduced. Students that remain on campus should be cognizant that various maintenance and housekeeping focused projects may be taking place within their residence halls. For any rooms or apartments with an existing vacancy, or a newly created vacancy because a roommate is moving out at the end of the term, Housekeeping and Maintenance staff will need to enter the space to clean and get it ready for a potential new Spring resident.
  • Also, building CA staffing for the duration of the winter break will be decreased.*

Building walk-throughs and entry into student rooms/apartments:

RLUH staff will be performing closing walk-throughs of all rooms and apartments throughout Winter break. The main reasons for completing these site visits is for building safety and security, but also to prepare for the arrival of any new residents moving into any vacant housing assignment. For more specific information on why and when, click the above link.

If you are currently living in a double occupancy bedroom with no roommate; that may change for the spring semester. You are expected to clear your belongings from the second set of furniture and make sure the furniture is completely accessible so that a new roommate will have a smooth transition to campus. Likewise, if there is a vacancy in a multi-bedroom apartment, please be considerate of a potential new apartment-mate and be sure to clean the common areas and bathrooms to make for a welcoming environment. RLUH staff will be inspecting these spaces over the break to ensure the rooms and apartments are ready to receive newly assigned residents.

The Residential Learning and University Housing office will remain open during the Winter Break. Feel free to contact us via phone at 856-256-4266 or via email at housingquestions@rowan.edu.
