Things to consider when matching
Opting into Gender-Inclusive Housing
Interested in living with someone of another gender identity?
If you are planning on mutually matching with individuals who have a different gender than you, all group members must ensure they are opted into gender-inclusive housing.
To opt in, select "Yes" to the application question which asks: "Would you like to live in a gender-inclusive housing space?" This confirms that you agree to live in a gender-inclusive housing option.
By selecting "Yes," you agree to live in a room or apartment with roommates of any gender identity. Only students who select "Yes" will be eligible for these designated spaces.
Please note: If a vacancy occurs, another student who has opted for gender-inclusive housing may be assigned to the space, regardless of their gender identity.
If all group members have not opted in, you will not be permitted to select together during room selection.
Credit Hours & Roommate Matching
It is CRUCIAL to know how many credits each member of your roommate group has!
When determining class standing for the Room Selection process, we take into account the credits that you have already earned as well as the credits you are currently enrolled in for the spring term. Summer and future course enrollment is not taken into consideration in this process.
Students will receive an appointment time for room selection based on the person with the lowest class standing in their group. For example, a group of 4 matched senior students will receive appointment times during the “senior” selection date, whereas a matched group of 3 seniors and 1 sophomore will receive appointment times during the “sophomore” selection dates. Please keep this in mind when determining who you will be forming a matched group with.
- Students with 0-57 credits are considered “sophomores”.
- Students with 58-89 credits are considered “juniors”.
- Students with 90+ credits are considered “seniors”.
Transfer & Returning Students
Unfortunately, transfer and returning students are not eligible to match as roommates. This is due to the timing of transfer credit processing, which does not occur until the summer—well after returning students have already completed their housing selection. As a result, transfer students would have 0 credits recorded at the time of roommate matching and selection, placing their group at the lowest priority in the selection process. Allowing such matches would disadvantage returning students who qualify for specific housing options by delaying their selection time, particularly given the limited availability of housing.
Instead, we encourage all incoming transfers to consider participating in the summer room swap process, in the hopes that a member who is not apart of the roommate group would be willing to swap spaces with the transfer student. Details regarding that process will be shared after all selection rounds occur.
Nexus Eligibility
All Nexus properties will be only eligible to juniors and seniors. To qualify for eligibility:
- You must have either earned at least 58 Banner Credits as of Spring 2025. Current spring enrollment IS considered towards the 58 credits. Summer and future course enrollment is NOT.
- OR You must be at least 21 years old on or before September 2, 2025 to live in any Nexus Property
Please note: All members of your matched group must be eligible for Nexus in order for the group to live in Nexus. Otherwise, the entire group will not be eligible to select Nexus during your selection round.
Important Reminders:
- Be sure to accept/deny any pending roommate matching requests.
- Students who do not select a roommate match will be paired up with other students who share like interests and did not match.
