Hypothesis at Rowan
Hypothesis is an annotation tool that promotes student engagement and collaboration that works in Canvas.
Users contribute notes in the margins of digital texts (web or pdfs) in Canvas, and share highlights, threaded comments, tags, links, images, and more. Using it fosters more genuine, creative, and collaborative discussions which produce a deeper, contextual understanding of readings than traditional discussion boards.
Getting Started at Rowan
To get started with using Hypothesis in your Canvas courses you must first submit a request to have it installed in each course. Submit your request via email to The Support Center at support@rowan.edu from your official Rowan email account and be sure to provide the following details in your email:
The subject line should be: Canvas: Hypothesis Installation
Body of the email: Hello, I would like to have Hypothesis installed for the following courses (then for each course, include the following):
- Instructor Name
- Course Name
- URL/Web address of the course (copy and paste the address found at the top of your
browser window. For example, https://rowan.instructure.com/courses/2950089)After you have emailed, your request will be routed to a member of the Rowan Online team. You can track your Rowan support requests by logging into Rowan Support Portal and selecting My Incidents.
Once it has been installed, you can follow the instructions for setting up an assignment.
Please note: Rowan Online will provide follow-up information once the installation is complete and will also include information of how to get help with Hypothesis once the install is completed.
If you plan to attend a workshop, please request at least 7 days before the workshop to give time to set up your classes. You may want to mention the date of your workshop in the body of your email so they know about a deadline.
