Rowan Teaching Connection (RTC)

Our Mission:

The Rowan Teaching Connection (RTC) is housed in and supported by the Faculty Center at Rowan University. Our mission is to serve all Rowan Employees who teach (full-time faculty, part-time faculty, professional staff, and graduate students).  We seek to provide them with opportunities for professional development and leadership in teaching excellence on campus. To this end, the RTC both serves the professional needs of Rowan's teaching faculty and provides programs and resources to all faculty at Rowan University.

The RTC holds annual conferences in the fall and spring focused on improving teaching. They also assist with other Faculty Center events and workshops.

GREAT IDEAS FOR TEACHING STUDENTS (GIFTS)

Friday, March 27 , 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The Rowan Teaching Connection (RTC) and the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning invite all faculty, librarians, and graduate students to submit an application to present at this year's Great Ideas for Teaching Students (GIFTS) Mini-Conference.

Submit your proposal via this form by Tuesday, February 24.

Presenters accepted to share their GIFTS will engage colleagues in an 8-10 minute demo of a favorite teaching activity, assignment, or technique that has had an effect on their teaching and their students' experience in their class. GIFTS should be open enough to be adoptable and adaptable across disciplines. (Presenters don't have to make explicit connections to other disciplines -- they just need to provide food for thought!)

We are open to any proposals, but  here are some ideas to spark your thinking!

  • Activities for active learning
  • AI in teaching and learning (ethics, resistance, and use)
  • Alternative forms of assessment
  • Building classroom community
  • Cultivating creativity, movement, and play
  • Enhancing class discussions
  • Experiential learning and community collaboration
  • Inquiry and exploration
  • Low-tech and analog teaching
  • Managing group assignments and projects
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Teaching in today’s political climate
  • Tips and tricks for using Canvas effectively
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Wicked problems

Successful proposals will center students, provide enough detail so that reviewers can understand the purpose and structure of the activity, and spark ideas for colleagues who might use this in their classrooms.
