Certificate Programs (COGS)

While Certificates of Graduate Study (COGS), Certificates of Advanced Graduate Study, Graduate Endorsements/Certifications, and Post-Baccalaureate programs are classified as academic, they are non-degree programs. As such, these programs are ineligible for federal/state aid programs with limited exceptions (see below). 

However, you are encouraged to seek other forms of assistance such as employer tuition reimbursement, scholarships or private loans.

There are a few exceptions and the following programs ARE eligible for federal aid: 

  • Music Therapy (9006)
  • Pre-Health Studies Cert (9835)
  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities (9811 and G609)
  • Reading (9803)
  • ESL Education COG (G604)
  • Bilingual/Bicultural Education Graduate Endorsement (G605)
For financial aid purposes, these programs are considered undergraduate programs. Please keep the following in mind:
  • Only federal student loans are offered for these programs in accordance with undergraduate annual aid limits and lifetime aggregate limits
  • You must be enrolled half-time (6 credits) each semester to be eligible for your federal student loans.
  • The TAG and Pell Grants are not available for these programs.
  • You may be required to include your parent's income information on the FAFSA if you are considered a dependent student. 
  • Please do NOT select the option for graduate/professional student when completing the FAFSA for one of these programs.
