BS in Respiratory Therapy - Entry Into Practice

Program Goals

  • Prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs).
  • Prepare leaders for the field of respiratory care by including curricular content with objectives related to the acquisition of skills in one or more of the following: management, education, research and advanced clinical practice (which may include an area of clinical specialization).

Admission Requirements

Admission to this program is competitive. There will be many students each year who meet the requirements to submit an application. However, the program accepts a maximum of 30 students each fall. Meeting the overall admission requirements listed below is not a guarantee of admission.

  • Pre-professional associate degree or equivalent college coursework that fulfills foundational, technical, and general education requirements
  • Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
  • Minimum 2.8 GPA in required science courses
  • Minimum composite score of 72 on the Health Sciences Reasoning Test (HSRT)

    • NOTE: HSRT may be retaken, AT LEAST TWO WEEKS after prior test; MAXIMUM OF TWO retakes  
  • Completion of Criminal Background Check (required for participation in clinical placements)* 
  • Compliance with Immunization Requirements (required for all academic and clinical activities)* 
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support/CPR* 
  • Compliance with Technical Standards for mobility, physical endurance, motor skills (fine & gross), tactile, visual, hearing and mental/attitudinal capacities*

*Once an application is approved, acceptance into the program is contingent upon a successful criminal background check, drug screening, and compliance with technical standards.
