In the southern NJ region, many health-care institutions are now hiring coaches specifically, using job titles such as Health Coach, Population Health Coach, and Wellness Coach. These institutions include Cooper Health System, Inspira Health System, Kennedy Health System, Capital Health System, Meridian Health System, Jersey Shore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Health System, and United Health Group. Other area organizations that hire wellness coaches include Independence Blue Cross and Blue Shield and several YMCAs in NJ.
The National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) is a volunteer-driven organization with a 15-year history of researching best-practices in wellness coaching and working to establish a national standard of practice for wellness coaches. This certification has become the expected qualification for professional wellness coaches nationally. The NBHWC offers formal Program Approval to academic preparation programs which meet its standards. Graduates of Approved programs are qualified to sit for the national certification exam upon graduation.
