MA in Wellness and Lifestyle Management
This is a program for professionals from a variety of disciplines who want to work with clients and students to create and maintain lifestyle changes. The program is designed to prepare graduates to develop and implement wellness and lifestyle change programs in community, hospital, corporate and school settings.
Students in the WLM program include professionals who currently work as nurses, school nurses, Registered Dietitians, Human Resource Coordinators, teachers, public health coordinators, and fitness specialists; however, the program attracts students from many different disciplines and career paths.
The WLM program consists of 10, 3-credit courses. The first nine courses may be taken in any order, so students may enroll in the program at the start of any 8-week module throughout the year. For the 10th course, students have the option of completing one of three culminating experiences: the Capstone Project, the Internship in WLM, or the Practicum in Wellness Coaching.
Embedded into the WLM curriculum is a four-course sequence called the Certificate of Graduate Study (COGS) in Wellness Coaching. As long as students choose the Practicum in Wellness Coaching as their culminating course, they can earn both the MA in WLM and the COGS in Wellness Coaching within the same 10 courses. This Certificate is Approved by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC); graduates qualify to become national board-certified Wellness Coaches through the NBHWC.
