Dr. Kaitlin Mallouk approaches teaching as an engineering design process, constantly refining classroom experiences using student feedback to maximize learning and instill enthusiasm for engineering. Prioritizing the individuality and strengths of each student, the associate professor in Experiential Engineering Education has pioneered innovative engineering clinic and graduate learning activities. They are based on clear organization, regular bidirectional feedback and continuous improvement. Demonstrating a lifelong commitment to growing as a teacher, Mallouk fosters deep student engagement founded on evidence-based assessment and reflective practice. “In the classroom, Mallouk cultivates intellectual excitement for engineering topics while also cultivating a culture where students’ individual experiences, identities, perspectives and contributions are valued,” according to an administrator. “Dr. Mallouk had a profound impact on my undergraduate experience at Rowan University, helping me grow as an engineer and a young adult throughout my four years there,” says a former student and research assistant. Another former student comments: “She has become a mentor and role model for me throughout the years, and I am continually impressed by her intelligence and work ethic.”
