Health Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

How can a student waive the health insurance?
Go to universityhealthplans.com and select Rowan University.  When the student submits the waiver form, they will receive a confirmation number to their e-mail.  Please allow 3-5 business days for the insurance waiver to be processed.
When can a student access the waiver?
The waiver site typically opens at the end of June for the fall semester and the first week of December for the spring semester.  A student can access the waiver about 2-3 business days after they have fully registered.
When will the insurance fee be removed from the bill?
The insurance fee will be removed once University Health Plans (UHP) has verified the student’s coverage.  This should happen within 3-5 business days of submitting the waiver.
What happens if a student’s waiver is rejected?

The waiver site will shut down after the waiver deadline, and the waiver form will then convert to a waiver appeal form.  The form will look exactly the same as the waiver form, however, there will be an additional question for the student to explain why they missed the deadline.  The appeal form will remain open until a date determined but the University. 

NOTE:  Students that utilize NJ Family Care will have until November 30th to provide proof of coverage to UHP.  If there are claims on file the appeal will be automatically declined.

Can students waive their insurance if they previously enrolled?
Students can cancel their enrollment as long as it is prior to the waiver deadline and there are no claims paid by Aetna.  In order to cancel the enrollment the student may contact UHP at (833) 251-1143.  UHP may request an e-mail (e-mail address to be determined).
What happens if a student answers a question incorrectly on the waiver questionnaire?

If a student’s answer on the waiver questionnaire does not meet Rowan’s requirements they will receive the following message: 

"Based on the response provided, you are not able to submit a waiver form.  Please go back to the previous page to carefully read the questions and review your answers.  If you are still having trouble, please contact University Health Plans for assistance at (833) 251-1143."

The student will have the opportunity to go back and answer the question correctly and will not be automatically declined. 

Can an international student waive with a policy that is not ISO or ISI?

A student may waive with an insurance plan underwritten by a company based in the United States (U.S,) that is compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  Additionally, the insurance plan must provide in-patient and out-patient coverage in the Southern New Jersey Region.

How can a student enroll in the health insurance?
Go to universityhealthplans.com and select Rowan University.  When the student submits the enrollment form, they will receive a confirmation e-mail.  Please allow 3-5 business days for the insurance enrollment to be processed.  Once the enrollment has been processed, the student may visit universityhealthplans.com and follow the link to print their card.  NOTE:  If a student enrolls in the insurance plan prior to the start date of the insurance, they will need to wait until the effective date of the insurance to print their card.
Can a student enroll in the insurance if they previously waived?
A student can cancel their waiver and enroll in the insurance plan as long as it is prior to the waiver deadline.  In order to cancel the waiver, the student must contact UHP via e-mail (info@univhealthplans.com) advising that they wish to rescind their waiver.  UHP will work with the insurance administrator at Rowan University to ensure the student is billed the coverage.
What happens if the student waives the insurance plan and then loses coverage?
Students who did not enroll themselves during the open enrollment period may be able to enroll in the policy if they experience a Qualifying Life Event.  Students should contact UHP at (833) 251-1143 within 31 days of their loss of coverage.  The student(s) will pay for the coverage directly through UHP.
Can a student enroll a dependent?
No, the new policy does not allow for students to add dependents.
