International Student Employment Workshop Series

The International Center team has created a series of Employment Workshops to equip you with the knowledge to successfully and legally work in the U.S. We strongly advise you to review these workshops in their entirety, as they will answer most of your questions.

On-Campus Employment Workshop

This workshop is a partnership between the International Center and Career Services. We will explore the visa regulations surrounding on-campus employment, the Social Security Number application process, how to find and apply for on-campus jobs, U.S. standards for resumes and cover letters, and more.

OPT Workshop (F-1 Optional Practical Training)

This workshop will review the full Post-Completion OPT application process, Pre-Completion OPT information, employment and reporting requirements, and more. F-1 students must attend or watch this workshop before applying for OPT.

STEM Extension OPT Workshop

This workshop will review STEM OPT regulations, eligibility, the full STEM Extension OPT application process, employment and reporting requirements, options Beyond the 24-Month OPT STEM Extension, and more. F-1 students must attend or watch this workshop before applying for the STEM Extension.

This workshop only applies to you if your degree (CIP code listed under “Major 1” on your I-20) is on the Department of Homeland Security's STEM Designated Degree Program List.

OPT and Beyond Workshop

This workshop will be presented by an immigration attorney and will discuss options for F-1 students after OPT including Cap-Gap Extension, H-1B visa process and timelines, alternatives to H-1B, long-term immigration planning, and more.

CPT Workshop (F-1 Curricular Practical Training)

This workshop will review the CPT regulations, CPT eligibility at Rowan, the full CPT application process, and volunteering vs. unpaid work. F-1 students must attend or watch this workshop before applying for CPT.

Fall 2025 Employment Workshops

The following workshops were recorded live at the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester. Some of this information is subject to change for the new semester, so please make sure to watch the upcoming workshops (linked above) to stay informed!

CPT Workshop (F-1 Curricular Practical Training)

This workshop discusses CPT eligibility, full-time vs. part-time CPT, rules and regulations, academic course registration, and the CPT I-20 application process.

OPT Workshop (F-1 Optional Practical Training)

This workshop discusses OPT eligibility, applying for your OPT I-20, completing the I-765, and OPT reporting requirements. The workshop also briefly covers the Cap-Gap extension.

STEM Extension OPT Workshop

This workshop discusses the STEM Extension application process (including the I-983 and I-765), eligibility, employment requirements, and reporting requirements. The workshop also briefly covers the Cap-Gap extension.
