The Brown and Gold Standard

Of more than 3,000 colleges and universities in the U.S., Rowan is one of only a handful whose colors are brown and gold, so this helps us stand out, especially in the competitive and crowded northeast region of red and blue variations. 

The key thing to remember about color is that it is one of the first things people notice, so, even without words or pictures, Rowan's brown and gold help identify the University quickly and effectively. Color is one of the visual "shorthand" elements that's part of Rowan's brand. Without words and other information, the colors say, "Rowan." The Rowan "look" will almost always have a bit of brown and gold in it, even if it's just the color of the logo used as a "signature" on an item. 

Tradition holds that our brown and gold colors come from the brown-eyed Susans that grew in the orchards near campus in the University’s early years. Derived from nature, the brown and gold complement each other well and symbolize the contrasts that are part of the character of the University: brown for tradition and stability; gold for vibrance and intensity.
