Satellite Accumulation Areas
All laboratory chemical waste is collected in what are known as Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAA's). SAA's are designated locations that are within control of the laboratory operators where waste can be accumulated without time constraints until the container is either full or the waste is no longer being generated by the laboratory. Once a container is full, it must be transferred to a Central Accumulation Area within 3 calendar days by law. Laboratory Safety manages the transfer of waste from laboratory SAA's to the Central Accumuation Area using a pickup request system. There are several key regulatory requirements for the operation of SAA's. Please read the following guide for more information on SAA's:

Important:
- All waste containers must be sealed at all times unless you are actively adding waste to a container.
- Do not exceed 55-Gallons of Hazardous Waste or 1-Quart/2.2-Pounds of Acutely Hazardous (P-Listed) Waste in a SAA at any given time.
- Each laboratory must have a designated Laboratory Waste Manager who is responsible for managing the waste stored in SAA's. Laboratories must perform monthly SAA Self-Inspections in BioRAFT.
SAA's must be identified in laboratories with signage provided by Laboratory Safety. To obtain SAA signs, please contact Laboratory Safety at LabSafety@Rowan.edu or 856-256-5105.
