More about Elisabeth Griffith:
"Historian Elisabeth Griffith is an academic, activist, author, and expert on American women’s history. Her biography of suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton, IN HER OWN RIGHT (Oxford, 1983), was hailed by both Oprah and the Wall Street Journal as “one of the five best books on women’s history.” It was the basis of Ken Burns’ documentary on Stanton and Anthony, NOT FOR OURSELVES ALONE, his only film about women’s history.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Betsy’s new book, FORMIDABLE: AMERICAN WOMEN AND THE FIGHT FOR EQUALITY, 1920-2020 (Pegasus, 2022), is a “thorough and thoughtful” account of the struggles of white and Black women to expand their rights. The New York Times review found FORMIDABLE an “engaging, relevant, sweeping chronicle. [Griffith delivers a] multiracial, inclusive timeline of the struggles and triumphs of both Black and white women. A profoundly illuminating tour de force.”
A graduate of Wellesley College with a doctorate from American University, Betsy has been teaching women’s history for forty years. She has marched for women’s rights since the 1970s, worked with the National Women’s Political Caucus and led the Women’s Campaign Fund, a bipartisan political action committee for women candidates. Her twenty-two-year tenure as headmistress of the Madeira School, a girls’ boarding and day school in McLean, Virginia, earned the Washington Post’s Distinguished Educational Leadership Award. A member of the Society of American Historians and Veteran Feminists of America, she has been a Kennedy Fellow at Harvard and a Klingenstein Fellow at Columbia."

Aging Successfully: Dr. Rachel Pruchno
Wednesday, October 25 | 1:00 p.m.
Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine
Academic Center | Multipurpose Room
Join the Women’s Alliance Network for an insightful conversation about the keys to aging successfully featuring keynote speaker Dr. Rachel Pruchno, an endowed chair and professor of medicine in the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, and moderator Dr. Esther Deblinger, professor of psychiatry and founding co-director of the CARES Institute at Rowan Medicine.
Dr. Rachel Pruchno is a psychologist with a keen interest in researching and studying the art of aging. She is currently working on her next project – a book titled Thrive! Aging Successfully in the 21st Century – as the culmination of research she has conducted over the past 15 years. Thrive! will make readers question what they think they know about the later years and empower them to make changes that will enable them to age successfully. While dozens of books tell readers how to improve their health and increase longevity, Thrive! is the first book written for lay people that distinguishes health and longevity from successful aging. Readers will learn how people aging successfully think, what they do and how they interact with others.
For over 35 years, Dr. Esther Deblinger has been engaged in clinical work, training and research focusing on the amelioration of the negative effects of childhood trauma on youth and their families. More recently, Dr. Deblinger has focused her efforts on developing and evaluating the efficacy of educational programming designed to reduce burnout and secondary traumatic stress among mental health professionals in the field.
