What Are Accuplacer Placement Tests?

Accuplacer tests assess your readiness for college-level courses, ensuring you are placed in classes that align with your skill level to support your academic success.

Who Needs to Take the Test and When?

• Placement tests should be completed within 30 days of confirming your offer of admission. Your placement testing completion unlocks your registration and schedule.
• Mandatory for students applying or admitted as Test-Optional.
• Required for certain majors (see tables below).
• First-Year Students: Your academic advisor will create your first-semester schedule; however, it cannot be finalized until your placement test scores are received.
• Transfer Students: To finalize your course schedule, your official transcript must be electronically received by the Registrar's Office.

Important: Testing Services does not waive any placement testing requirements. Any exemptions are based on official electronic transcripts or score reports sent directly to Rowan University Admissions and/or Rowan University Registrar's Office.

Why Are They Important?

• Accuplacer is not a pass/fail test—your results guide course placement.
• Completing the test accurately ensures you're placed in the right class, avoiding unnecessary coursework.

Types of Placement Test

1. Next Generation Reading (NGR) Test

   • Measures: Reading comprehension and ability to interpret words and phrases in context.
   • Format: 20 multiple-choice questions, untimed (most finish in 45-60 minutes).
   • Tools: No additional tools allowed.

Test Administration & Fees

• On-Campus: Free at Rowan University’s Testing Center (Glassboro Campus).
• Remote Testing: Available online for a $28 proctoring fee. Vouchers are automatically sent to your Rowan email from Accuplacer, ProctorU.
• Multiple Tests: Can be taken in one testing appointment with no additional fees.
• Retakes: The proctoring fee is $20. This retake fee covers all Accuplacer tests you choose to retake during the same session. For example, if you plan to retake two tests, the total cost remains $20.

2. Schedule Your Test – Choose between on-campus or remote options. Remote vouchers are automatically emailed by Accuplacer, ProctorU to your Rowan student email. A valid photo ID is required for both in-person and remote testing appointments.
3. Prepare & Take the Test – Do your best, but don’t stress. These tests are required to ensure proper course placement.

Reminder: Only schedule an appointment for in-person tests. For remote testing, a voucher is automatically created and sent to your Rowan student email by Accuplacer/ProctorU.

Remote Voucher Requests:
Due to high volume, remote vouchers are processed by Accuplacer, ProctorU within 72 business hours (Monday–Friday) from the time you confirmed your acceptance.

If you are an incoming first-year or transfer student with fewer than 30 transfer credits and do not meet one of the exemptions below, you are required to take the ACCUPLACER Next Generation Reading
