First-Generation Support Program Mission
The Rowan University First-Generation support program, Flying First, aims to provide tools and opportunities for students to have a successful personal, professional, academic and social college experience. The goal of the program is to help first-generation college students feel engaged and appreciated by the broader Rowan University community as a means of improving persistence and personal growth.
The Flying First program provides an opportunity for Rowan University members to increase awareness about the experiences of first-generation college students and to share knowledge and best practices for first-generation college student success.
Objectives
By accessing the Flying First resources and services, students will:
- Acknowledge, appreciate and value a diverse community at the University and beyond.
- Utilize self-directed skills to navigate campus resources.
- Gain decision-making skills and comprehend how decisions affect themselves and others.
- Engage in the campus community to create a sense of belonging.
- Have the ability to build and appreciate positive and meaningful relationships with peers, faculty and staff.
- Take responsibility for their own success.
- Develop a connection to Rowan University which facilitates a life-long commitment to the University.
