First-Year Scholars Program

What is the First-Year Scholars program?

The First-Year Scholars program (FYSP) provides first-year Exploratory Studies students with unparalleled support to ensure a successful and fulfilling university experience. Through the program, students will be paired with Academic Advisors, Academic Support Coordinators, and Success Coaches. These connections will help guide students during their adjustment to Rowan University’s academic and social life. 

Alongside fellow scholars, students in the program will be enrolled in clustered sections of Rowan 101: College Success, College Composition, and other first-year courses. This placement will create a supportive community that encourages students to give their best effort in college.

First-Year Scholars will have two in-person meetings and one remote session with their academic advisor each semester, as well as regular meetings with their dedicated Success Coach and Academic Support Coordinator.

How does the program work?

Students in the program will commit to regular meetings with their Success Coach to discuss progress, address concerns, and receive guidance on navigating their classes and university life. First-Year Scholars are expected to attend classes, keep up with assignments, attend advising appointments, and read their Rowan email. 

Participating students who achieve a GPA of 2.5 or higher at the end of the fall semester will receive a $150 stipend for spring semester textbooks. Those who maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in the spring semester will receive a $150 textbook stipend for the following fall semester.

How do I join?

To be eligible, students must enroll at Rowan University within the Exploratory Studies program. Invitation emails outlining the program and sign-up process will be distributed in June, and students should complete the interest form found here. Space is limited, so involvement in the program will be on a first-come basis with a focus on students who are committed to participating.
