J-1 Exchange Visitor Document Checklist
The following documents are required to invite an international Exchange Visitor to Rowan University on J-1 status. Please contact the International Center with any questions about these requirements. All documents should be sent to the International Center at rowanic@rowan.edu, or to the appropriate International Scholar Advisor.
Documents for all new J-1 Exchange Visitors
- Exchange Visitor Packet
- Packet must be complete with all required signatures
- Copy of the Exchange Visitor's passport
- Copy of the Exchange Visitor's CV or resume
- Invitation letter/appointment letter from the hosting department
- Proof of English proficiency
- We accept English test scores OR a letter from the departent confirming that English proficiency has been evaluated via an interview
- Certification of English Language Proficiency letter template

Additional documents for J-1 student interns
- DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan
- Please leave page 2 blank as this is for the International Center to complete
- Letter from current academic advisor in home country approving the student internship/exchange
Additional documents for unpaid/self-funded Exchange Visitors
- HR’s Volunteer Form
- Financial support documentation
- Exchange Visitors must demonstrate, at minimum, $2,500 per month of the J-1 program if they will be self-funded
- An additional $1,000 per month per J-2 dependent is required
Additional doucments for Exchange Visitors already in the U.S. on J-1 status
- Copy of current DS-2019
- Copy of current J-1 visa
- Copy of most recent I-94
