RESOURCES FOR PREGNANT AND PARENTING STUDENTS

The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), which prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. The regulations prohibit discrimination based on pregnancy and related conditions in institutions that receive Federal funds. Please review the latest guidance released on October 22, 2022 by the Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights.

If you are a pregnant or parenting student, please contact the Title IX Coordinator, for more information about your rights under Title IX.

Lactation Center and Nursing Mothers Room

The Women's Center in the Office of Social Justice, Inclusion, and Conflict Resolution (SJICR) at Rowan University provides space for nursing mothers and lactating women to express milk during the day. The Center offers privacy from coworkers and public intrusion as well as a warm, comfortable place to pump between classes or on break from work.

The Women's Center Lounge and Lactation Room is available Monday - Click HERE for available times and location. For mothers, please contact Tara Ferrucci at ferrucci@rowan.edu to reserve the space. The room will have access to a fridge for storage of milk, but women are expected to bring their own storage and pumping supplies.

Rowan University Early Childhood Demonstration Center: provides child care for Rowan University students, employees, alumni, and community. 

Chamberlain Student Center Lactation Room

The Student Center Lactation Room is located in SC Room 204. This space is allocated to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable space for all lactating/nursing parents to pump and/or chestfeed.

To access the Lactation Room, please visit the SC Building Manager Office in SC 104 or the Rowan University Information Desk located on the first floor of the Student Center. The building manager will be able to confirm it’s not currently in use and unlock the room. There is a minifridge where milk/formula can be stored; however, we request it is cleared at the end of each night.

The Student Center Lactation Room is available when the Student Center is open, normally from 7am-1am every weekday and 9am-1am on weekends.
