The State of NJ is currently under Stage 3 Fire Restrictions due to the lack of rain which bans any charcoal grilling. Propane is permitted. Please plan accordingly.
2024 Homecoming Tailgate
Registration for the Homecoming Tailgate is required and is now part of the overall Homecoming Celebration registration which closes on Monday, October 28.
HOMECOMING TAILGATE INFORMATION AND POLICIES
If you are a Rowan community member interested in setting up a tailgate space at the Homecoming Celebration on November 2, 2024 you will need to pre-register by Monday, October 28. Those setting up a tailgating space will need to bring their own tent and supplies.
Pre-registrants are strongly encouraged to attend one virtual information session to learn more about the 2024 Homecoming Celebration and Homecoming Tailgate. Virtual information sessions will take place on the following dates and times:
Wednesday, October 16 at 7 p.m.
Thursday, October 17 at 12 p.m.
More information about how to join these meetings will be sent to the email address you provide when registering.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Rowan community members are invited to tailgate in designated areas in Parking Lot O. Check in at the Welcome Tent upon arrival to be directed to your tailgate area. Homecoming Celebration festivities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and University-sponsored activities, including food trucks, Kids Zone and the University Showcase, will cease operations for the day at 3 p.m. The Homecoming Tailgate will remain open until 6 p.m.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
Parking Lot O will host all tailgates, including:
- Football, Cheerleading, Dance and Marching Band Tailgate
- Student and Alumni Tailgate
- NPHC and Multicultural Organization Tailgate
Participants must vacate Lot O starting at 6 p.m. Tailgaters in Lot O can play music from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for those in the Football, Cheerleading, Dance and Marching Band Tailgate, who must stop music at 2 p.m. (game time).
SPACE AND SUPPLIES
Space in Parking Lot O is guaranteed for those who pre-register by October 28 at 11:59 p.m. Placement is first-come, first-served, and tailgate areas are chosen upon arrival.
Members of the Rowan community cannot set up or drop off materials before 8 a.m. and must vacate by 6 p.m.
Tables, chairs, tents and other supplies are not provided and must be brought and cleaned up by the tailgating groups. Rowan University and the Homecoming Committee are not responsible for any items left behind.
Selling items is prohibited. Tailgating spaces are for gathering with friends, not for businesses.
FOOD TRUCKS
Student attendees will receive $10 in tickets to use for the food trucks as long as they swipe in with their Rowan student ID at the Welcome Tent located along Stadium Drive. Alumni and non-student guests interested in purchasing lunch can do so at any of the food trucks. Food trucks accept cash and credit.
GRILLING GUIDELINES

- Grilling must be done 50 feet from a building
- Each participant with a grill MUST have a fire extinguisher within 10 feet at all times
- No grilling can occur within 10 feet of any combustible
- No grilling can occur under any building overhang
- No deep fryers are permitted
VEHICLES
Parking Lot O opens at 8 a.m. for pre-registered vehicles to drop off belongings. Set up is not allowed before 8 a.m. All vehicles must exit by 10:30 a.m. and no entry is allowed after 10:15 a.m.
Engines must be turned off while loading and unloading.
For safety, no vehicles can re-enter Lot O before 6 p.m. Rowan University staff will assist with clean-up from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., transporting materials to surrounding lots.
MUSIC AND NOISE
Pre-recorded music will be pumped into Parking Lot O-1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tailgaters in Lot O can play music from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for those in the Football, Cheerleading, Dance and Marching Band Tailgate, who must stop music at 2 p.m. (game time).
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., please keep music at a moderate level and limit explicit content. After 2 p.m., speakers in the Student and Alumni, and NPHC and Multicultural Organization areas should face the soccer fields to avoid interfering with the football game. Guest DJs may use their own sound systems.
No music is allowed from 1:50 p.m. to 2 p.m. during the National Anthem in Richard Wackar Stadium.
CLEAN-UP
Participants are responsible for the garbage in their area. Please come prepared with your own garbage bags.
Trash bins will be provided and emptied throughout the event, with the last pick-up at 6 p.m.
Please be respectful of our University community by removing any and all trash after the tailgate. Additional trash bags will be available if needed.
