RIPPAC congratulates CHSS students who

earned coveted spots in New Leadership Conference

The Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship (RIPPAC) congratulates Hafiza Kazi ‘20 and Marika Igras ’19 on each winning a coveted spot in the annual National Education for Women’s (NEW) Leadership program being offered this summer at Rutgers University.

Both Kazi and Igras are Political Science majors and part of Rowan’s College of Humanities & Social Sciences.  As RIPPAC Associates, they have each applied themselves to their career paths and been active in RIPPAC programming on campus.

Hafiza is a junior at Rowan University from Clementon, NJ, and has interned for Princeton Strategies working on NJ Senate President Steve Sweeney’s successful re-election campaign.  This past academic year, she served as President of the Rowan Democrats and is on the executive board of the NJ College Democrats.  She is a constant presence at RIPPAC and other events across campus.

Marika is a graduating senior at Rowan from Wallington, NJ, who secured three political internships during her college career.  Over the last few years, she worked for state Senator Paul Sarlo, Congressman Donald Norcross and the NJ Business and Industry Association (NJBIA).  She’s maintained a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the varsity track team.  Selected for Pi Sigma Alpha, a national political honor society and for Delta Phi Epsilon, a national service sorority, she is also a member of the Rowan Pre-Law Society and an associate with the Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship.

National Education for Women’s Leadership, or NEW Leadership™ (NEWL), is a statewide college women’s public leadership training program at the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), a unit of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers-New Brunswick.  The program educates college women about the important role that politics plays in their lives, introduces them to successful women leaders, and provides them with the tools to become more involved in the political process.

The NEW Leadership™ New Jersey summer institute is a non-partisan, six-day residential program that takes place in June. During the summer institute, students meet women leaders, learn about women in American politics, and develop and practice leadership skills through panel discussions, workshops, and hands-on projects.  After the summer institute, participants become part of NEWL’s national network of distinguished alumnae.
