An Evening with...

RIPPAC’s first event of the Spring Semester brought Hon. Steve Sweeney, President of the New Jersey State Senate, to campus to discuss, “New Jersey’s Fiscal Condition and Our Future.”

A capacity crowd gathered in Business Hall room 104 to hear what the State Senate President had to say about New Jersey's future. An informal Q&A afterwards covered such topics as the recent raise in New Jersey's minimum wage, the legalization of marijuana, small businesses, and state employees benefits.

More than 250 people turned out on December 6, 2018 for our event with Steve Kornacki, MSNBC and NBC National Political Correspondent. 

Kornacki, author of The Red and the Blue: The 1990s and the Birth of Political Tribalism, joined us here on campus on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the results of the 2018 Midterm elections.

Kornacki spent three years in New Jersey chronicling the state’s political world for a political news website and co-hosting a weekly show on News12 New Jersey, a 24-hour cable news channel.

His work has also appeared in the Wall Street JournalNew York TimesNew York Daily NewsNew York PostBoston GlobeDaily Beast and at Capital New York.

Governor Chris Christie speaking on the Future of the Republican Party

Chris Christie  joined us on campus in October to speak about “the future of the Republican Party.” More than 300 guests greeted the Governor and listned to his thoughts on where the Republican Party is headed. Christie served as the 55th governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018.  He began his career as a freeholder in Morris County, became a lobbyist for energy companies in 1998, and served as United States Attorney for New Jersey.

A Midsummer’s Night of Politics and Prose

    with former New Jersey Governor James J. Florio

The Rowan Institute welcomed James J. Florio, the 49th governor of the State of New Jersey to speak in Business Hall on August 2, 2018. After President Ali Houshmand’s opening remarks, Prof. Ben Dworkin, Director of The Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship, interviewed Governor Florio about his career and his recently released memoir, Standing on Principle: Lessons Learned in Public Life (Rutgers University Press). Later, the Governor took questions from the audience.
