Lifeguard Certification - Spring 2025 Courses

Lifeguard Certification

Course Details: This is an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning course. 

  • Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Please note that there must be a minimum of 5 people registered for the course

  • Course Requirements
    • This is a 3 day class (must attend full duration)
    • Must be at least 15 years of age
    • Completion of online course module (approx. 7 hours) prior to the in-person class + completion of classroom content 
    • Must pass the swim test on the Friday evening of the course weekend. The swim test includes:
      • 300 yard swim (continuously), 2 minute tread using only the legs, completion of a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water swimming 20 yards surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point exit the water without using steps or a ladder. 
  • Class Description
    • Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED valid for 2 years.

    • Satisfies OSHA workplace safety certification requirements

Lifeguard Recertification 

Course Details: This is an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning course. 

  • Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

    • Must be at least 15 years of age
    • Completion of online course module (approx. 7 hours) prior to the in-person class + completion of classroom content 
  • Class Description
    • An abbreviated Lifeguarding cour+se that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years.

    • Combines the flexibility of online training with instructor-led skills check
    • Learn from experienced instructors
    • Satisfies OSHA workplace safety certification requirements

Instructions for online registration:

  1. Go to campusrec.rowan.edu
  2. If Rowan Student: login with your Rowan username/password. If Non-Rowan Student: Click sign up and create a new user account.
  3. After you sign in/create account you will be redirected to the home page.
  4. Select the certifications tab to see all available programs.
  5. Select Lifeguarding Certification. Select session and click register.
  6. Complete online sale.

Please note: Class must have the minimum required of people registered for the course to run. The class will be canceled due to low enrollment; those registered can opt for a full refund or transfer in to the next available course.
