Tales of the Maya Skies takes you on an incredible journey of discovery that brings to light the Maya’s sophisticated understanding of astronomy, architecture, and mathematics and how this knowledge intertwined with their creation myths. Discover how the ancient Maya observed and recorded the movement of the planets and the Sun throughout the seasons. See how they used this knowledge to interpret and understand their world, predicting solar eclipses, weather patterns, and planetary movements. One Sky Project (Gr. 4 - adult)
One Sky Project is an international collaboration focused on increasing understanding of cultural and indigenous astronomy, its historical and modern applications, and how our One Sky connects us all. Each short film represents the perspective of a different culture or Indigenous society from around the globe. Each film stands alone as a short story or, in combination, as a longer narrative – organized around themes of "Finding Patterns" and developing tools, or as we say, "To Seek Far."
We'll start the show under our winter skies during a guided tour of the stars and constellations with one of our amazing educators!
Living in Balance (Gr. 5 - adult)
Living in Balance: Anishinaabe Star Knowledge highlights Anishinaabe stories of constellations and moons in relation to contemporary insights about environmental changes. Teachings shared by Native Skywatchers Carl Gawboy, William Wilson, and Dr. Annette S. Mayan Archaeoastronomy (Gr. 6 - adult) (Also available in Spanish)
In a feast of colors and sounds, Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe makes a tour of 6 Mayan temples: San Gervasio, Chichen Itzá, Uxmal, Edzná, Palenque, and Bonampak, where the spectator dives into a Mayan world of knowledge about the importance of the orientations of its temples with the movement of some stars like the Sun, the Moon, and Venus.

Go on an astronomical journey from our beginnings through the development of astronomy research in South Africa and discover what the future of astronomy holds for the country. In addition to introducing multi-wavelength and multi-messenger astronomy, Rising Star highlights the many remarkable South African facilities and some of their latest results, including unrestricted views of the 10-meter class Southern African Large Telescope and the most powerful radio telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, MeerKAT.

Travel to ancient Egypt to see how science was used to tell time, make a workable calendar, and align huge buildings.
