Rowan University’s “Food for Fines” initiative will take place during the last week of each month within the academic year. Students will be able to donate items to the Rowan University SHOP in exchange for parking violation forgiveness.

 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many items am I allowed to donate? What is the maximum amount of money that can be taken off of my parking ticket?

A: One donation to the SHOP has an equivalent value of $2 per donated item , not to exceed 15 donated items.

Example: A student with a $50 fine, would be able to donate up to 15 items for a reduction of $30, leaving the violation total at $20.

 

Q: How often am I allowed to participate in this initiative?

A: Students are eligible to receive credit towards one violation per semester.

 

Q: “I don’t have a parking permit, can I still participate in this initiative?”

A: No, this semester while the program is being piloted, only students with permits ($50 violations) are able to donate items to earn forgiveness dollars.

 

Q: Are graduate students and faculty allowed to participate in this initiative?

A: No, this semester while the program is being piloted, only undergraduate students are able to donate items to earn forgiveness dollars.

 

Q: Where should someone drop off donations for this?

A: Rowan SGA is responsible for the collection of donations in the SGA suite during normal operating hours.

 

Q: Do I need to bring anything else with me to the SGA office in order to be eligible for this plan?

A: Yes, please bring your ticket number that you would like the donation credit to be applied to, your student ID, and valid Banner ID number.

 

Eligible donations include

  • Non-perishable food items
  • New, unexpired, unused items
  • Toiletries (not travel sized)
    • Toilet paper, paper towels, etc.
    • Soap, shampoo, etc.
Non-eligible donations include
  • Perishable food items
  • Used, open, expired items
  • Travel sized toiletries
  • Items that will expire before the end of the academic year
