Healing Arts in Education

We are committed to integrating creativity into healthcare, education, and community practice to help shape compassionate and reflective healthcare professionals while also training the next generation of arts in health practitioners and teaching artists. Through partnerships with Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Inspira Health, and the Rowan Department of Art, we use the arts to support empathy, wellbeing, communication, and human connection across healthcare and community settings.

From hands-on workshops to semester-long courses, our research and education programs show how the arts can transform the way future clinicians and health professionals learn, connect, and care.

Our Educational Initiatives

  • Healing Arts Area of Distinction (Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine)

  • Healing Arts Workshops Medical Residents
Programs for medical residents that incorporate activities such as painting, sculpting, creative writing, and other reflective exercises to support their well-being.
  • Emergency Medicine Mentorship Program
A creative mentorship experience that pairs students with emergency physicians for shadowing opportunities, teaching them about narrative medicine and presence.
  • Arts in Health Selective at Cooper Medical School at Rowan University (Coming this spring)
A student elective that explores how creative practices support communication, healing, and clinical presence.
