Reporting Student Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation

Reporting Student Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation

Our week social media platforms have been rightfully flooded with concerns about racist and offensive postings by Rowan students on their personal accounts. While federal privacy laws prohibit the University from discussing student matters publicly, we are evaluating each reported incident to determine whether these incidents are subject to discipline under our Student Code of Conduct or whether they are incidents that are protected by freedom of speech. In addition, we are following up with education and targeted outreach with the goal of getting the individuals involved to understand why the language is not acceptable and not in line with our vision and values. Racism has no place here at Rowan and every student deserves to feel safe on our campus. Thank you for your activism and for continuing to shine a light on wrongdoing.

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Office of Student Equity & Compliance (OSEC) is located in Savitz Hall, Rm 203. The office plays a significant role in providing students support and protection under Title VI.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

If you feel you or someone you know is a victim of discrimination, harassment or retaliation on the basis of any of the protected categories such as disability, gender identity and expression, national origin, race or ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, color, veteran status, genetic information and other characteristics prohibited by law
