Center For Access, Persistence & Achievement

About CAPA

Welcome to CAPA!

The Center for Access, Persistence & Achievement (CAPA) addresses local and regional issues by expanding access to higher education for historically underrepresented students. Research shows that major problems exist in recruiting and retaining low-income and first-generation students in postsecondary education programs. Our purpose is to increase college access, academic preparation and persistence for participating students. CAPA provides comprehensive academic support, services and resources specifically designed to enhance student academic achievement and success. The services provided by CAPA support the enrollment growth, retention and persistence goals of the university.

CAPA Services

CAPA programs and services help students overcome social, academic, financial, and cultural barriers in higher education. The goal of CAPA is to prepare students from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in postsecondary or professional academic programs. To accomplish this goal, the staff provides activities to:

  • improve pre-college preparation, college admissions, and financial aid application processes; and
  • provide the skills and motivation necessary for completing college graduation requirements.
  • strengthen math and science skills of students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields;
  • provide financial and student success resources to students admitted to Rowan via ASCEND.
