We are pleased to partner with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts to present Navigating Elements for the 2018 Arts Annual. This exhibition highlights twenty-one contemporary artists from across the state exploring environmental themes through installation, painting, photography, sculpture, sound, and video. The works that encompass Navigating Elements are a response to the many complexities, intimacies, and ephemeral characteristics of our natural environment presenting a range of narratives from the physical and organic to cultural and experiential. This curated blend of artistic practices together read as a single vision that raises our awareness and appreciation of our natural world.
The New Jersey Arts Annual series is a program of the State Arts Council, carried out in partnership with major arts organizations around the state. The unique series of exhibitions highlights the work of New Jersey visual artists working in the areas of fine arts and crafts. One exhibition takes place each year in either fine arts or crafts, in altering sequence, and featuring artists living or working in New Jersey. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, created in 1966, is a division of the NJ Department of State. The Council was established to encourage and foster public interest in the arts; enlarge public and private resources devoted to the arts; promote freedom of expression in the arts; and facilitate the inclusion of art in every public building in New Jersey. The Council receives direct appropriations from the State of New Jersey through a dedicated, renewable Hotel/Motel Occupancy fee, as well as competitive grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. To learn more about the Council, please visit www.artscouncil.nj.gov.
Made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
