Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Screening/Assessment

AOD Screening and Assessment is a service provided to students who may be concerned about their use of alcohol or other drugs and are considering AOD services. Services are provided to self-referred students or students mandated by an appropriate campus authority. Using evidence based assessment tools, a counselor and student will meet for a 1 hour, interactive session to determine if there is a Substance Use Disorder, the need for AOD Treatment services and the appropriate level of care needed to address the disorder. In many cases the need for treatment warrants a higher level of care that cannot be provided at the Wellness Center. In these cases, the Wellness Center has a network of several off campus resources available to those in greater need.

Screening and Assessment is a two-way dialogue of question and response between the counselor and student. All information obtained and recommendations made, strictly adhere to 42CFR Part2, Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records protecting the privacy and confidentiality of participating students. Only through a signed Authorization of Release, at the discretion of the student, can student information be shared to a third party. Exceptions to this are imminent risks for harm to self and others. Due to limitations and demands, Rowan AOD Screening/Assessment and Counseling Services does NOT provide forensic or court ordered Screening, Assessment or Therapeutic Services. In these cases, the Wellness Center works with a network of several off campus resources available. Rowan AOD services does NOT facilitate / provide any form of drug testing components. (UDS-Urine Drug screen, mouth swab, hair, blood testing etc.) Off Campus resources are available for those in need.
