Job Descriptions
Adult Swim Instructor
Adult swim lesson instructors employed with Campus Recreation will create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that supports and respects all individuals. The adult swim instructor will evaluate and work with each participant individually to develop lesson plans that will motivate participants toward their learn to swim goals. Swim instructors must demonstrate patience and enthusiasm and communicate effectively with students and ensure that all water safety and rules are adhered to.
Starting Pay Rate - $16.63
Job Description
- Assist in set-up and clean-up of all swim lesson equipment and materials
- Lead private lessons and instruct students on proper swimming technique, strokes, and water safety
- Assess the progress of students and adjust teaching plan accordingly
- Maintain constant supervision of students to prevent accidents and injuries

American Red Cross Instructor
The American Red Cross Instructor position is responsible for teaching certification course offerings through Campus Recreation to departmental student staff and the Rowan University community. The instructor may teach varying course offerings, which includes: First Aid/CPR/AED, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and/or Lifeguard training, where applicable. In addition, instructors will assist in the facilitation of departmental CPR audits for student staff employed within Campus Recreation midway through each Fall and Spring semester.

Job Description
- Instruct Red Cross Training certification courses to Campus Recreation student staff and the Rowan University community
- Responsible for applying quality assurance during training activities to ensure courses are taught consistently and within compliance of the American Red Cross requirements
- Supervise participants while they practice course skills and providing timely, positive and corrective feedback as they learn through the course
- Facilitation of class set up and clean up: familiarity with the Red Cross Learning Center online learning platform, class room and equipment set up and utilization and decontamination best practices
- Assist with departmental CPR skills audits facilitated throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, to ensure student staff American Red Cross skills competency
- Must maintain certification by teaching or co-teaching one class per semester
- Participate in all staff meetings, Real Worlds, and departmental wide training

Lifeguard
The primary responsibility as a Lifeguard employed with Campus Recreation is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Lifeguard staff must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing and eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors while consistently enforcing pool policies. Lifeguards are expected to ensure the safety of patrons, spectators and program participants during Varsity swim meets, Club Swim meets, external program rentals, youth swim lessons and open recreation swim.

Job Description
- Maintain surveillance of both active and passive users of the facility, which includes members in and out of the pool
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies when guarding the pool and pool deck
- Coordinate emergency and evacuation procedures that include care for the injured, initiation of the emergency action plan and notification of appropriate personnel and University and community authorities
- Educate and enforce members on all pool rules, policies and procedures
- Keep the facility safe and clean by participating in a regular cleaning and pool maintenance schedule (sweeping the pool deck, vacuuming the pool, scrubbing the pool deck, etc)
- Perform hourly pool chemical checks and counts of users present on the pool deck
- Assist with Campus Recreation and Aquatics program special events and facility rentals
- Report any maintenance problems or safety hazards to the Aquatics professional staff
- Participate in all staff meetings, monthly in-service staff trainings, Real Worlds, departmental wide trainings and monthly conditioning requirements which includes a 300 yard swim and 5 minute tread

Youth Swim Instructor
Youth Swim Instructors create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. The Youth Swim Instructors follow a set curriculum to ensure they are providing direct and appropriate leadership, instruction and motivation for youth (ages 3-12) in an aquatic environment. Youth Swim Instructorsmust demonstrate patience and enthusiasm and communicate effectively with students and ensure that all water safety and rules are adhered to.

Graphic Designers
This position collaborates with team members to conceptualize and produce engaging graphic materials for a variety of programs. “Programs” in this case refers to group fitness classes, intramural sports, and special events. Your creativity and design skills will be key in preparing graphics for social media, flyers, digital displays, posters, and brochures. Graphic designers will collaborate effectively with other team members to achieve common goals.

Group Fitness Instructor
Instructors employed with Campus Recreation have the opportunity to work within the Rowan community to educate, inspire, motivate, and guide individuals and groups towards their fitness and wellness goals. With the department’s core values (quality, service, relationships, and development) as their guide, instructors will work within the scope of their practice as guided by their education, certification, and experience. Instructors will prepare content and lead group classes like Cycling, Yoga, BODYPUMP, ZUMBA, Pilates, etc. Campus Recreation seeks to create a community where individuals feel included and valued. Our group fitness classes and instructor team will continuously work to create that space.

Job Description
- Commit to teaching a minimum of 1-2 weekly classes for the length of the semester

Personal Trainer
Personal Trainers employed with Campus Recreation, work with the Rowan community to educate, motivate, and guide individuals and groups towards their fitness and wellness goals. Personal Trainers will work within the scope of their practice as guided by their education, certification, and experience. Personal Trainers will train assigned clients in accordance with program policies and standards for safety and risk management. They will work individually with clients to create and implement exercise programs, build a positive rapport, conduct fitness assessments, and work with clients to establish safe, realistic goals.

Job Description
- Research and create workout plans for clients

Program Monitor
The Program Monitor position with Campus Recreation is part of the Fitness & Wellness team. This position is essential in supporting the programming, promotion, and operational needs of the fitness and wellness programs offered. “Program” in this case refers to group fitness classes, special events, and activities. Program Monitors will greet and register participants, assist in the setup and break down of programs, classes, and events. The Program Monitor will ensure equipment is clean and functional and attend to any broken or unusable equipment. The Program Monitor will also promote programs to the campus community through tabling and special events. Interested candidates should be comfortable interacting with people in in-person settings, problem solving, and attending to risk management or emergency situations.

Job Description
- Assist in setting up equipment for group fitness classes (rolling out mats, rolling out bikes, setting up weighted bars)
- Welcome participants and communicate in a manner that makes them feel comfortable and included
- Check in and register participants using online registration app
- Maintain a safe environment by monitoring group fitness class participants for signs of injury, illness, or medical emergencies and perform CPR/AED or First Aid if necessary
- Communicate group fitness policy and procedures to participants
- Support the group fitness instructor as needed with technology (stereo and microphone) issues, evacuation or risk management in the case of an emergency, and equipment management (set up, break down, and reporting of broken equipment)
- Report broken equipment to supervisors and remove broken equipment from studio if deemed unsafe to use
- Clean used equipment following cleaning checklist and standards to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Set up and break down for tabling and special events, according to the specific event’s requests and needs, with the purpose of promoting fitness classes and services
- This position does not work over school breaks, and has limited hours during summer

Intramural Sports Official
Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for facilitating all intramural sports contests and enforcing all rules & regulations of each individual sport and Campus Recreation as a whole. Officials will work in teams of anywhere from 2-4 officials per game to maintain a safe, welcoming, & inclusive environment for all participants.

Job Description
- Prepare proper set-up and break-down of playing areas and equipment
- Ensure that all intramural equipment & storage spaces remain clean & organized
- Enforce all intramural sports policies & rules of competition
- Promote a high level of professionalism before, during, and after each game
- Communicate effectively with players, spectators, & fellow officials
- Train to officiate all intramural sports offered each year including flag football, basketball, volleyball, softball, & soccer as well as sports which may rotate from year to year such as team handball, cricket, and dodgeball, among others
- Accurately maintain the time, score, & any other “sport-specific” requirements
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and all required training sessions for each sport
- Maintain availability for when Intramural contests occur (Sundays 1-11pm, Monday through Thursday 8pm-Midnight)

Minimum Hours
- Must be available to work some Sunday shifts
- Must be available to work least two shifts per week (6-8 hours)
Average Hours and Days/Times of shifts
- Students can not work more than 20 hours per week. Most Intramural Sports Officials work an average of 6-8 hours in a typical week but may work more (12-15 hours) during training weeks and less (2-4 hours) towards the end of each sport’s playoffs or in-between seasons
- Intramural shifts are typically scheduled Sunday (1-11pm), Monday through Thursday (7:30pm-Midnight). No hours are offered during winter break
- Bi-weekly staff meetings that are scheduled based on availability of staff, which can be anywhere from 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday
- Very minimal work on Fridays or Saturdays, except for some special events and tournaments
- Required to attend (2) Friday afternoon All-Staff meetings which take place twice per semester

Main Office Assistant
This Main Office “MO” position is the first point of contact for our students, members, and guests. Responsibilities include monitoring facility entrance, processing payments, managing equipment checkouts, and providing exceptional customer service. Main Office Assistants will have shifts at both the Recreation Center and Fitness Center.

Job Description
- Oversee member and guest access to the facility, ensuring a secure and welcoming environment
- Sell and process payments for memberships, locker rentals, sport club dues, equipment, and program registrations with efficiency and accuracy
- Manage the check-out process for facility equipment
- Answer incoming calls using proper phone etiquette, direct calls to the appropriate personnel
- Has strong working knowledge of our facility, policy & procedures, and program offerings
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of our facility, policies, procedures, and program offerings to provide accurate information to members and guests
- Conduct informative facility tours for prospective students and members, highlighting key features and benefits of our programs
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, following established protocols and procedures. This includes but is not limited to calling 911, being first point of contact for EMS, and being first responder to emergencies in the lobby area
- Attend all mandatory meetings and training to stay informed about updates, changes, and best practices

Facilities Operations Assistant
Facilities Operations Assistants “FAC” work in both the Fitness Center and the Recreation Center and their associated facilities such as the skatepark, intramural field, sand volleyball courts and tennis courts. The FAC staff is also prepared to help with any special event that Campus Recreation is involved in. These events have a wide variety of needs and duties and can range from student committee run events all the way to institution wide events.

Job Description
- Complete cleaning and maintenance tasks around the facilities (both indoors and outdoors), examples include mopping, vacuuming around the facility; taking wipe trash out and cleaning off windows and mirrors; cleaning off high touch points
- Identify and notify the supervisor of any damage to the facility or equipment that is used. Notify managers of any low supply inventory
- Setup and breakdown of special events which includes setting up and removal of tables and chairs. Putting up volleyball or other informal recreation equipment. Taking out bulk trash with the help of carts provided. This job requires the ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs throughout the facilities. This can be assisted by other staff members
- Working in a team culture and being ready to assist other staff departments to help provide a clean and welcoming environment
- Perform first-aid duties for any injuries up to the level of your certification

Fitness Area Assistant
Fitness Area Assistants “FAA” work at both the Recreation and Fitness Center. They are to monitor and enforce any policies within the Fitness Area (Free Weight room, stretching areas, indoor track, cable machines). Fitness Area staff are to provide assistance to any patron concerns. This is done by providing first aid care, answering questions, or referring them to the right information. Fitness Areas are to perform daily cleaning tasks through each shift, and submit a shift report at the end of each day.

Job Description
- Work three to four hour shifts with a maximum of 20 per week (shifts as early as 6am and as late as midnight)
- Provide customers with information regarding machine functionalities, and facility policies and procedures (ex: how to adjust seats on equipment) Refer them to personal trainers if asking for workout advice, etc.
- Perform cleaning duties (ex, wiping down equipment upholstery, vacuuming underneath equipment, etc.)
- Inspect and document equipment for any damage (ex: cable wires fraying, upholstery tearing, rust, equipment grips ripping, etc.)
- Perform first-aid duties for any injuries (ex: providing band aids, CPR, any care in between)
- Attend monthly staff meetings (Area trainings, all staff trainings, any required meetings)
- Cultivate an inclusive and diverse environment for all participants to feel comfortable utilizing space
- Monitor and walk around Fitness Area (includes areas like free weight room, functional training rooms, indoor track, cardio areas, stretching areas, cable machine areas, etc.) to enforce policies, provide care, and to maintain an environment presence
- Collaborate with other employees while on shift to complete shift tasks, policy enforcement, and program assistance
- Submitting shift reports that summarizes what occurred during a shift

Sport Clubs Supervisor
Sport Clubs Supervisors provide oversight for the practices and competitions of our sport club program. You will work alongside a certified athletic trainer, emergency medical technician (EMT) or fellow sport club supervisor during competitions. You will learn strong communication skills, critical thinking and decision making skills.

- Supervise home Sport Club competitions and practices at the intramural field, varsity soccer field, football stadium, ESBY gym, and rec center basketball courts
- Ensure the playing field is clean and safe for competition and practices
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of competitions and practices
- Enforce all facility and Campus Recreation policies
- Work directly with a certified athletic trainer and/or emergency medical technician (EMT) for injuries and first response
- Communicate with athletes, coaches, guests, and officials
- Fill out shift reports, injury reports and conduct roster checks
- Assist with administrative paperwork, data entry, and projects for all 50 sport clubs
