Incoming, Returning, and Transfer Students
First-Year Students
Welcome New Profs
We’re excited you’re here! Your first year at the University is an exciting time, and your on-campus living experience will be an important part of the transition. We look forward to working with you to help make Rowan University your home away from home. At Rowan, first-year and sophomores typically live on campus and are subject to the Mandatory Housing Policy. You quickly discover that your residence hall is more than just a place to study and sleep. Residence halls provide a wide array of co-curricular programs to extend learning beyond the classroom as well as many social, cultural, and recreational activities. Resident Assistants will play an important part in this, as they are there to support your overall success in the residence hall.
Steps to communicate your Housing Intention:
- Apply for Housing or Request a Housing Waiver (using our Zip Code List to verify)
- Select or search for a roommate (The deadline to roommate match for SPRING 2025 incoming and transfer students is December 2, 2024.)
- Accept or decline your roommate match
- Wait for your housing assignment notification
- Sign your housing contract!
- Select your meal plan when the application is available.
Where Will I Live?
First-year students are housed in one of seven residence halls on campus. Residence halls primarily have double occupancy rooms. Singles are available but on a very limited basis. In residence halls, students share common bathrooms in their suite or hall. All residence halls house students of multiple genders. Students in traditional residence halls may choose roommates of the same gender. In addition, every residence hall has a common lounge, and most halls provide additional recreational spaces.
All spaces are fully furnished with an extra-long twin bed, dresser, desk, and closet or wardrobe for each student. Most rooms are carpeted. Non-carpeted rooms may be requested on a space-available basis. Air-conditioning is standard in Holly Pointe Commons. Traditional residence halls are not air-conditioned. Internet and cable TV services are included in all housing options.
You are unable to state a preference or choose what building you would like to live in. You will be randomly assigned a space and receive notification through email over the summer. You will also get the name and contact information of your roommate and others in your suite area, if applicable.
LLC's
Living-Learning Communities, commonly referred to as LLCs, are communities developed to enhance students’ residential experience. Named a high-impact practice by the Association of American Colleges & Universities, LLCs transcend the learning experience in the classroom to a learning experience in the residential community. They are created to bring students together with shared interests, passions, and academic goals with a group of students who share your living space.

Budget Considerations
Rowan University offers housing options in our traditional residence halls as well as our newest residence hall Holly Pointe Commons. When completing the housing application, students have the opportunity to indicate the importance of affordability in making their room assignments. Keep in mind that Holly Pointe Commons has amenities such as air conditioning that result in a higher cost compared to the Traditional Residence Halls. You should discuss your budget and review your financial aid resources carefully when considering how to answer questions in the housing application.
Returning Students
Welcome back, Profs!
Returning students apply for housing for the next academic year during the spring semester. Detailed information about the application and room selection process, including important dates and deadlines is sent to every student via their Rowan University email account.
Returning Student Room Selection Process
The Returning Student Room Selection Process consists of 3 steps:
1. Complete the Housing Application There is no deadline to complete the application however, to participate in Roommate Matching, you must apply by the specified date.
2. Roommate Matching – students who have completed the application by the deadline will be instructed to complete their roommate selections via MyHousing by the specified date. Please remember students must mutually match each other in order to go through room selection together.
Credit Hours and Roommate Matching:
When determining class standing for the Room Selection process, we take into account the credits that you have already earned as well as the credits you are currently enrolled in for the spring term. Summer course enrollment is not taken into consideration in this process.
Students will receive an appointment time for room selection based on the person with the lowest class standing in their group. For example, a group of 4 matched senior students will receive appointment times during the “senior” selection date, whereas a matched group of 3 seniors and 1 sophomore will receive appointment times during the “sophomore” selection date(s). Please keep this in mind when determining who you will be forming a matched group with.
-Students with 0-57 credits are considered “sophomores”.
-Students with 58-89 credits are considered “juniors”.
-Students with 90+ credits are considered “seniors”.
3. Room Selection – students who have completed the application by the deadline will receive an email confirmation and further instructions on the room selection process!
Meal Plans
All students residing in a residence hall must select from either the All-Access, 14, 10, or 7 meal plans. Students not residing in a residence hall may select any meal plan option, but it is not a requirement. For more information, check out our Meal Plan FAQ page here!
Transfer and Graduate Students
Welcome to Rowan, Transfer & Graduate Profs!
The Residential Learning and University Housing office would like to congratulate you on your decision to join the Rowan University community. Students transferring or seeking a graduate degree at Rowan University have the opportunity to live in campus housing. Those who wish to live in campus housing will need to fill out the housing application in order to move forward with getting a housing assignment.
Room Selection for Transfer Students takes place in the late spring/early summer for Fall Semester admits only. Students will receive an email indicating their timeslot before their selection date. Failure to select a room on the day you are assigned will result in you selecting a room during a makeup round which is scheduled to take place after all rounds of room selection are completed if space permits. If all rooms have been assigned and you are not able to participate in the makeup day, you will remain on the housing waitlist and will be provided a housing assignment over the summer.
Do I have to live in campus housing?
Rowan University has a mandatory housing policy for students in their first or second year at the institution, requiring students to live in campus housing. However, there are criteria that excuse transfer students from this policy. For example: if a student is over 21 years old, or will be transferring in more than 58+ credits. For more information on the mandatory housing policy, please click here.
Where will I live on campus?
Rooms may be single or double occupancy with a minimum of 4 students to an apartment. All buildings are co-ed and offer single-gender suites/apartments, and the option of Gender Inclusive Housing as well. All spaces are fully furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, and closet or wardrobe space for each student. Most rooms are carpeted. Non-carpeted rooms may be requested on a space-available basis. Air-conditioning is standard in all apartments except Triad. Internet, as well as cable services, are included.
For more information on housing options, please click here.
Students with medical needs that necessitate housing accommodation will need to work with the Academic Success Center. Their office can be reached at: successcenter@rowan.edu | (856) 256-4259.
How do I pick a roommate?
Please note the Roommate Matching Process is for Fall Semester admits.
The deadline to roommate match for new incoming and transfer students is June 2, 2024.
Incoming Transfer or Graduate students are able to mutually match with other students as long as:
- Both are incoming students (cannot be a current student or incoming first-year undergraduate student)
- Both students have completed the housing application
- Requests are made and accepted before the roommate matching deadline
Beyond this deadline, students are unable to make roommate requests. While we work to accommodate every match possible, please keep in mind that roommate matches are NOT GUARANTEED by the University.
The Mandatory Housing Policy & Waiver
The Mandatory Housing Policy was instituted for the benefit of students. However, students may request a waiver if they meet the requirements. Learn more here!
