Syllabus Language for Responsible Employees

If you would like to support your students by including a statement in your syllabus related to Title IX.  Here is suggested language:

Statement of Support

Rowan University is committed to providing every student with an educational experience free from any form of sexual misconduct. Title IX and Rowan’s Policies prohibit sexual misconduct — including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, sexual harassment, gender-based discrimination, and stalking. We understand that sexual violence can undermine students’ academic success and we encourage students who have experienced some form of sexual misconduct to talk to someone about their experience, so they can get the support they need.

If you or someone you know has been harassed or assaulted, you can receive confidential support at the Wellness Center, 856-256-4333. Alleged violations can be reported non-confidentially to the Title IX Investigator or the Title IX Coordinator in the Office of Equity and Diversity at 856-256-5830. Reports to law enforcement can be made to the Rowan University Police Department at 856-256-4911.

For more information about Rowan University policies, how to report sexual misconduct, and the resources available to all students, please visit Rowan University’s Title IX website:

Confidentiality and Mandatory Reporting Requirement

As an instructor, one of my responsibilities is to help create a safe learning environment on our campus.  I also have a mandatory reporting responsibility related to my role as a XX (specify if desired). It is my goal that you feel able to share information related to your life experiences in classroom discussions, in your written work, and in our one-on-one meetings. I will seek to keep the information you share private to the greatest extent possible. However, I am required to share information regarding sexual misconduct that may have occurred with the Title IX Manager. Students may speak to someone confidentially by visiting the Counseling and Psychological Services at the Wellness Center or by calling 856-256-4333.

If you have any questions about your reporting responsibilities or any issues that may arise, please do not hesitate to contact the Title IX Coordinator in the Office of Equity and Diversity.
