Dietitian's Corner
Dietitian's Corner
Our nutrition and wellness team’s mission is to build a healthy foundation in nutrition knowledge, increase awareness of health issues, and expand the palate while improving food choices. The program's focus is wide-reaching, encompassing the entire campus community from students to professors to teams and athletic directors.
Allergen Updates as of January 2024
As of January 2024, Gourmet Dining has changed our allergy program to include coconut and its derivatives in our designated allergen stations and dining halls. That said, our allergen stations, Gr8 and Bowl Life, will now avoid the top 9 allergens including wheat, soy, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, sesame, peanuts, and tree nuts (except coconut). Menu items that contain coconut will be clearly labeled. Since many people with tree nut allergies can tolerate coconut, this change will allow us to provide a wide variety of exciting new options at our allergen stations.
Here are some of the new items that will contain coconut/coconut-based products you will now see at our allergen stations: Dairy Free Vegan Cheeses, Allergen Friendly Pizza, Allergen Friendly Rolls for Burgers and Sandwiches, Pasta, Dairy Free Vegan Dressings for Salads and even Dairy Free Vegan Desserts. As stated previously, this station will continue to avoid the top 9 allergens (except for coconut).
As always, if you have any questions and/or concerns, our campus Dietitian Nicole Testa is available and can be reached at RUdietitian@gourmetdiningllc.com.
We look forward to continuing to serve you allergy-friendly meals, and expanding your menu options.
Where to Dine with Food Allergies
If you don't have time to stop into the Marketplace, be sure to stop into Holly Pointe Dine In or order via Grubhub from Holly Pointe To Go, located in Holly Pointe Commons, and check out our designated allergen station, GR8. We offer a hot entree with a variety of sides as well as Udi's bread, bagels, muffins, and allergen-friendly cookie offerings at this station. Similar to Bowl Life, this station is separate from our main kitchen and dedicated to preparing items without the top 9 major food allergens.
