FAQs

Why am I asked to make an annual commitment?
As a Rowan employee, you see firsthand the incredible impact of private support—gifts large and small have helped transform Rowan into the extraordinary institution it is today. Your annual commitment helps impact the growth and progress of the charity of your choice.

When will I be asked to contribute to Rowan or any outside organization?
Rowan employees are asked twice annually—during the New Jersey State Employees Charitable Campaign (NJECC) each fall and again on Rowan University's Day of Giving each spring.

During the NJECC Rowan employees are asked to contribute to Rowan University or an outside charity. Employees are also asked to renew their payroll deduction contributions during the NJECC.

Each spring, Rowan employees are asked to participate in Rowan University's Day of Giving, an annual 24-hour day of philanthropy. Our next event will take place in March 2024. The spring PROFfunder Campaign will also launch in March and employees can double the impact of their gift by supporting a student project or program.

How long will the New Jersey State Employees Charitable Campaign
(NJECC) run?
The 2023 NJECC will begin November 1 and conclude on December 31, 2023.

Where can I access an NJECC reference guide/code book for a list of charities?
You can visit here for a list of charities.

Where will my gift go?
During the NJECC, your gift will go to the designation(s) of your choice. If you choose to support Rowan University, you may designate your gift to any institutional area that reflects your personal values and interests. When giving to Rowan University, 100 percent of your gift goes directly to the college, scholarship or program of your choice. If you select to support an outside organization, you can choose from the 800+ local, national and international charities.

How can I make a difference?
It is not the size of the gift but your participation that matters. Every gift reflects the commitment of Rowan employees and demonstrates to other donors the strong level of support from those who know Rowan best. Your gift offers you a way to invest directly in the organization’s future and inspires others to do the same.

How can I make a gift to more than one designation?
For gifts to Rowan: Type in your gift amount and then select the designation option, “I would like to choose my designation(s).” Select as many areas as you wish and on the giving page your gift amount will be divided among those areas. You are at liberty to determine what percentage of your gift is allocated towards each area.

For gifts to other organizations: You will have to log into your external account. Once logged in, type in the total amount you wish to give. However, keep in mind the minimum Payroll Deduction amount per organization is $52. Any amount less than $52 will be considered as an “undesignated” donation.  Once you establish your giving amount continue to the next page and select your charities of choice by clicking the “add” button to the left of the charity name.

I would like to make a gift, but I’m not sure I can afford it. What are my options?
Payroll deduction is a convenient, virtually “painless” way to give. You can arrange to have a small amount deducted from each paycheck over the course of a year. That way, for the weekly cost of a premium coffee or a soft drink, you can be a Rowan donor. You can also support any area of Rowan University with a gift of $5 or more. Even $5 can make a big difference to a college, student or program.

How does payroll deduction work?
Complete the payroll deduction section on the Employee Giving Form by specifying the amount you would like automatically deducted from each paycheck and where you would like your gift to be directed. Payroll deduction will begin with your January 6, 2023 paycheck.

I already made my gift this year. Will my gift count toward the Employee Giving Campaign?
For gifts to Rowan: Absolutely! If you have made a gift to the University at any time during the fiscal year (since July 1), thank you! Your gift and participation will be recognized as part of this campaign.

For gifts to other organizations: Donors pledge during the two-month campaign to support the 800+ other agencies. Employees are encouraged to pledge every year.

How do I report my donation on my income taxes?
For a donation to Rowan, indicate the Rowan University Foundation; for all other donations indicate the Employee Charitable Campaign. Your last pay stub at the end of the year is proof of your donation.

How will my participation be recognized?
All employees who contribute to the Employee Charitable Campaign will be counted toward the overall participation goal. If you designated your gift to Rowan, you will receive a thank you letter from the Rowan University Foundation. If you contribute to another organization, any additional recognition will come directly from that organization. Please note that you will not receive recognition from that organization if you select "No" for address and gift amount to be released.
