RIPPAC Summer 2024 Intern Scholarships

The Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship (RIPPAC) was founded in January 2018 to inform, engage, and train Rowan students, faculty, and the public. 

One of the ways RIPPAC pursues this mission is by supporting students who take on unpaid summer internships in politics, government, and issue advocacy.  These internships are critical building blocks in the construction of a Rowan student’s professional network, work experience, and career assessment.

Awards and Eligibility 

A student can be selected as the recipient of one of several RIPPAC intern scholarships for Summer 2024:

The Dr. Bruce Caswell Scholars Fund will provide, through RIPPAC, eight (8) tuition scholarships of $500 each to select, qualifying students who take on a summer internship in Summer 2024. 

• Preference will be given to those whose internship is unpaid.

The Rick Rosenberg, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide three (3) tuition scholarships of $2,500 each to select qualifying students who take on an unpaid summer internship in Summer 2024.

• The recipient shall reflect a passion for New Jersey politics and aspire to pursue a future political career like the late Rick Rosenberg, Jr., the Republican political operative.

The James P. Fox Memorial Intern Scholarship Fund will provide three (3) tuition scholarships of $2,500 each to select qualifying students who take on an unpaid summer internship in Summer 2024.

• The recipient shall reflect a passion for New Jersey politics and aspire to pursue a future political career like the late Jamie Fox., the Democratic political operative.
• Priority will be given to those student applicants who are Pell Grant eligible. Second preference will be for those students with demonstrated financial need.

In all cases:

• The summer internship must be in politics, government, or issue advocacy.
• The money is given as a scholarship for Rowan University and must be used towards Rowan tuition. The award cannot be diverted to any other purpose.
• The scholarship will be allocated evenly between the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
• Selection of recipients of these awards shall be determined by the Director of the Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship (RIPPAC), in consultation with the Office of Financial Aid pursuant to its eligibility and selection criteria.

Additional Eligibility Requirements 

To be eligible to apply for either scholarship, one must be a current undergraduate student in good standing at Rowan University with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 at the time of application. 

Though not required, those applicants who have already been actively involved with RIPPAC will receive special consideration.

The applicant also must have secured an appropriate unpaid internship for Summer 2024 prior to submitting his/her application.  The internship does not have to be done for credit. 

The internship must last at least six (6) consecutive weeks with the student working at least fifteen (15) hours per week.  The internship must be unpaid.

Obligations of the RIPPAC Intern Scholarship recipients 

There are certain obligations that all RIPPAC Intern Scholarship recipients must accept:

• Participate in the Mid-Atlantic Political Intern Summit on August 8, 2024.
• Provide a written paragraph about their internship, what they learned, why it’s important and how RIPPAC helped, along with a photo of themselves working at the internship.
• Arrange at least one (1) video meeting with the Director of the Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship during the course of the internship.
• While enrolled at Rowan University, participate significantly in all future programming by RIPPAC through organizing, assisting, and participating in the events.
• On occasion, speak on behalf of students who are involved with RIPPAC.

NOTE:  Should the student fail to uphold any of the requirements, the scholarship may be revoked.
