Job Description: Summer intern

Job Purpose: Intern administrative and content support to professional lobbyists at contract lobbying firm in Trenton, NJ.

Job Duties:

Summer intern:

  • Prepares bill tracking reports for review by lobbyists and distribution to clients.  Records client positions and notes on bill tracking system.
  • Prepares, and distributes to clients, email messages containing links to news articles of interest, as identified by lobbyists. Identifies articles of interest as intern gathers more experience.
  • Prepares, and distributes to clients, email messages containing summaries and links to proposed and adopted regulations, as identified by lobbyists
  • Maintains lobbyists’ calendars, including planning and scheduling meetings, conferences, teleconferences, and occasional travel.
  • Prepares printed letters from lobbyists and keeps scans thereof.
  • Answers routine inquiries from clients and others or directs such inquiries to lobbyists.
  • Answers telephone and relays messages to lobbyists.
  • Files or scans documents.
  • Keeps extensive Outlook contact list updated.
  • Observes virtual and in person meetings as time and circumstances permit.
  • Takes notes at and prepares summary of legislative committee meetings, press conferences and webinars.
  • Participates in daily staff meetings, by Zoom or in person.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

Skills/Qualifications: Intern will be trained in the above tasks in June and expected to work independently on them (with support from lobbyists) in July and August. College enrollment, excellent Microsoft office skills (including Outlook, Word and Excel), ability to work in fast-paced environment and good judgment required.  Other useful skills are writing, ability to learn client issues, scheduling, organization, time management and verbal communication. Covid vaccine required. Colleagues at KGA will be fully vaccinated.

Hours and benefits:  35 to 40 hours per week, as preferred by candidate.  State holidays observed.

About Katz Government Affairs:

Katz Government Affairs is a medium-sized contract lobbying firm with seventeen to twenty clients, including familiar names such as CVS Health, eBay and DoorDash, and trade associations that may be less familiar but that face equally interesting public policy concerns. The intern will be trained by our lobbying assistant and will work closely with the Principal of the firm and the Senior Director, Government Affairs.

KGA occupies one floor of a State Street brownstone directly across from the capitol complex, though we will likely be working both remotely and in the office this summer. There is free parking available behind our building.
