Confidential mental health and medical services are available through Counseling and Psychological Serivces and Student Health Services in the Wellness Center. Other resources to report sexual assault or other Title IX concerns can be found in the Office of Equity and Diversity.

Sexual violence crimes happen more frequently than you make think. It is important for survivors to know they are not alone and that there are several support programs available.
If you or someone you know is a victim of sexual assault…
Survivors of all genders may choose to seek medical treatment, counseling, or report the incident to the police or Rowan University administrators. Rowan strongly advocates reporting the incident as soon as possible.
- Seek Medical Attention Immediately
Seeking immediate medical attention is strongly encouraged to treat injuries and to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Medical attention does not require a police report. The hospitals have Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) who specialize in the treatment of sexual violence survivors.
- Preserve Physical Evidence
DO NOT wash, shower, brush teeth or hair, eat or drink, or change clothes if you plan to report the incident to the police. If you must change clothes help to preserve evidence by putting the clothes in a paper bag not a plastic bag.
- Survivors have the right to privacy and dignity. If you are unsure about what to do, you have the option to request the forensic examine and decide whether or not you want to proceed with a criminal complaint at a later time. Evidence from the exam may be held for 90 days providing time for a final decision about legal options.
