It is with deep regret that we inform you of the passing of Joseph Robinette, Professor Emeritus in Theatre, on April 24, 2025.
His wife, Helen Robinette who served Rowan as an advisor, instructor and assistant to the Dean in the College of Communications, passed the following day on April 25, 2025.
Joe began teaching at Rowan in 1971 and retired in 2005 after 34 years of service. He is the only faculty member in the College of Performing Arts to earn the prestigious Lindback Distinguished teaching award, served as the founder and head of the very popular child drama program, helped thousands of students become successful teachers, and served as a role model for generations of playwrights, actors and directors. He wrote/co-wrote and published 55 plays, including his authorized stage adaption of Charlotte's Web, which has been widely produced around the world in multiple languages. He also received a coveted Tony Award nomination for his work on the Broadway version of The Christmas Story.
There will be a joint viewing for Helen and Joseph on Friday, May 9 from 5 to 7 PM in the McGuinness Funeral Home (Washington Township) and at the Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit in Mullica Hill on Saturday, May 10 from 8:30-10:45am. A funeral mass will follow from 11am-Noon.
