Jack Gillespie

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the passing of Jack Gillespie, retired associate professor of communication, on May 22, 2024.

Jack began at Rowan in 1972 after serving in the Army and working in industry, education and journalism. A two-time Glassboro State College alumnus, he later directed its journalism program and taught undergraduate and graduate courses at his alma mater for 20 years. He served in the College Senate for 15 years and as its president for three years.

Jack also served as executive director of the Educational Press Association of America and, with Rowan colleagues, established the respected and successful professional business newsletter Communication Briefings. In retirement, Jack shared his writing and editorial expertise in publications that included management, business and religious topics.

For 17 years until his retirement in 2023, he served as associate editor of Rowan Magazine, guiding its development as the University’s award-winning, flagship publication.
