It is with great sorrow that we share with the Rowan community the sudden passing of Demetrius Poles, age 50, our head women’s basketball coach, on Saturday, May 20.
A Rowan alumnus, Demetrius was the starting center and leading rebounder on Rowan's 1996 national championship team. He went on to have a successful overseas playing career which spanned seven years and took him to more than 10 countries. He then served as a head coach in Sweden and Italy for 10 seasons.
Demetrius returned to the University in 2013. He was an assistant coach with the Profs' men's basketball team for three years and then joined the women’s basketball team staff in 2016. He was named head women’s coach in September 2019.
