In 2010, a mathematics conference was held at Rowan in honor of his 70th birthday.

In addition to his love of teaching mathematics for the past 55 years, Tom also had a passion for long distance running, where he competed for 62 consecutive years. Included in his over 2,600 races are wins in three national championships at distances from 25 kilometers to 50 miles. He also published several books on running.
