Parking
Over the past several years, Rowan has dramatically increased enrollment to better meet the needs of the region. The more students we educate translates into there being a better educated workforce for employers to draw from which ultimately means a stronger regional economy—a stronger South Jersey.
The impact of that growth can be seen almost everywhere, including new buildings, more faculty and staff, more weekend classes ... and more difficulty finding a parking space.
For approximately the past two decades, the University has had a parking policy that restricts freshmen who live on campus from bringing their cars to the University. These first-year students can only park on campus if they have an off-campus job or need their vehicles for medical purposes. Less than 1/3 of the freshmen who live on campus have a vehicle here.
New Sophomore Policy ... 700 spaces freed
Starting in Fall 2017, the University extended the residential freshman parking policy to residential sophomore students. As with the freshmen, these students will only be able to get a parking permit if they have an off-campus job or need their vehicle for medical purposes. The policy change freed up approximately 700 parking spaces across campus.
This new policy, combined with the 220-space parking lot added on Ellis Street and the fact that commuter students can now park in residential lots and resident students can park in commuter lots, will significantly lessen congestion in all lots throughout the busiest times of the day.
Shuttle Program Expanded
To further help movement across campus, the University has improved the Rowan Shuttle program. During the Fall 2016 semester, shuttles were added and a Rowan Shuttle App (GPS tracking) was created. That spring semester, thanks to the Student Government Association, routes were improved and the shuttles themselves were made easier to identify through the use of full-shuttle decals.
The Rowan Shuttle will offer a supermarket route on Wednesday and Friday evenings from the Chamberlain Student Center to Glassboro’s Shop-Rite and surrounding area. The shuttle will loop between the locations from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Thank you for understanding the need to change the parking policy. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Public Safety’s ParkingOffice at 856-256-4575 (On Campus: 6-4575) or email parking@rowan.edu.
