As of the fall 2023 semester, Counseling and Psychological Services at the Wellness Center on Rowan University's Glassboro campus has introduced "We're the First," a support group for first-generation students. The group meets every Monday from 2pm to 3pm at the Wellness Center in Winans Hall.

Students are provided opportunities to gather with one another and provide peer encouragement and support through shared experiences with a range of topics. These topics include, and are not limited to:

  • lack of knowledge in regard to the college experience, and resources
  • imposter syndrome
  • financial and familial stress

Students are also encouraged to share knowledge in regard to resources on campus, and offsite.

"We're the First" provides students with support in achieving academic success and overall wellbeing.

Interested first-generation students can walk-in to the Wellness Center on Mondays at 2pm and let the front office staff know that they've arrived for "We're the First," and they can contact the group facilitator, Andrea Leach, LCSW, Mental Health Clinician and Coordinator of Group Services, at leacha@rowan.edu.
