DEI Book Study: Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM)

DEI encourages departments and colleges throughout Rowan University to start a book study with their respective colleagues, to continually learn and engage in various topics surrounding DEI. Each month, we will be highlighting DEI Book Studies throughout campus!

Department: Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM)

Facilitators: Dr. Catherine Neary

Book: Racism without Racists - Eduardo Bonilla-Silva

DEI book studies are important because they help you hold each other accountable and also challenge one another. The discussions can help you look critically at ways you think you have changed, but also areas where you might have stalled out and need a push forward. It is one thing to think that you’re doing the work because you’re reading a book, it’s something else entirely when you put those actions into practice, personally and professionally. For that, you need support and sometimes encouragement/challenge from others, which is why meeting and sharing feelings and insights with others is so important.
