Charles A. Barnes II holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science from Rowan University-Glassboro and a Juris Doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law-Camden. Charles has worked as Deputy Chief of Staff to a NJ State Senator wherein which he contributed to the creation and implementation of the New Jersey STARS program. Charles has served as Acting Director in the NJ State Office of Constituent Services under former Governor Jon S. Corzine. Additionally, he served as a NJ State Lobbyist where he represented the interest of the heavy highway and construction industry before the state and federal legislatures.

Currently, he is an adjunct professor for Rowan College Burlington, Cumberland, and Gloucester where he actively teaches courses in State and Local Government, American Federal Government, Introduction to Court Systems, Legal Writing, Business Law I and II. As a graduate instructor at Rowan University, he has taught Legal Issues in Higher Education.

Charles is theEducational Support Graduate Coordinator for the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) where he serves as a key paraprofessional member to the DEI Faculty Fellow, and the overall Division. In this capacity he conducts research, facilitates meetings, and contributes support to the division’s Antiracist Pedagogies & Practices Task Force. He finds this work important because it promotes shared experiences, broadens perspectives, encourages understanding and nurtures a more positive environment for all.

Charles has returned to Rowan University to pursue a Ph.D. in Urban Education. His area of research will primarily focus on highlighting the intersectionality of social identities and related systems of oppression, discrimination, or domination as it relates to the LGBTQIA+ and religious communities.

Charles’ passions are reading, writing, educating, playing the piano and most importantly, spending quality time with family and friends. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and is the father of three clever, focused, and creative children. His motto is: “We fail to realize that we have become participants just by doing nothing. Unless we choose to interrupt it (systems), it will continue to go on. Our silence is consent. Until our discomfort becomes larger than our comfort, we will probably stay in this cycle.”- Bobbie Harro
